Living World Basic Principles of Life

Living World Basic Principles of Life

Our Earth is made up of two essential components .First one is Biotic means living beings present around us. And second one is Abiotic means non living.

A) 1)The living being once produced or born has to survive. For survival they need energy and many chemical molecules.

2)For energy it has to perform a process called as metabolism.

"Metabolism means a series of chemical reactions that occur in a living organism to sustain life."

3) Metabolism involves  two types of process catabolism and  anabolism.-
"Breaking down of larger organic molecules into smaller molecules is called as Catabolism."

During catabolism energy is released it is also called as its exergonic process e.g: breaking down of glucose.

"The set of metabolic pathways that construct molecules from smaller units called  as Anabolism."
This reaction requires energy also called as endergonic process.e.g: Synthesizing glucose.

B) 1)From birth onwards organism shows tendency of growth and development. Growth is a well organised process.
2)You might have observed sand mounds, boulders grow, etc. This growth is due to accumulation (means_ gathering) of sand or dust   particles.
 3) this is external growth not from within and hence this are not living beings (i.e  Abiotic).
 C) Growth and development are not the process which have unlimited time span. At certain point of time the molecules organ system begin to lose their effective working and become old. This is aging process of the body.

D) Life has to continue has the organism tries to produce young one like itself. It is possible due to reproduction.

Reproduction is a biological process by which new individual organisms i.e  offspring are produced from their parents. Generally there are two types of reproduction.
Sexual reproduction and Asexual reproduction

1) When two parents are involved in reproduction and gamete formation takes place is called Sexual Reproduction.
Example :Animals (mammals giving birth to their young ones).

2) When a single parent is involved in reproduction and gamete formation does not happen it is called Asexual Reproduction.Example binary fission bacterium undergoes binary fission in which the cell divides into two along with nucleus.

This ensures continuity of race mules, sterile worker bees , infertile humancouple, do not reproduce yet are living.

Question: Can we call reproduction as inclusive characteristic of life?
Answer:
Some organism exhibit characteristic of living things but they did not reproduce. Therefore ,reproduction cannot be an all inclusive defining characteristic of living organism.

E) As the body gets weaker day by day and losses it's capacity to perform metabolism, the organism die.

F) Any living being respond to changes in surrounding like thermal ,chemical ,or biological this is one of the best property of living beings and this property is is called as"Responsiveness to stimuli".
